No More Emojis in Amazon Listings

Posted: July 25

No more emojis in Amazon listings from August 15th, 2024! Officially, Amazon restricts the use of emojis, special characters, and some phrases.

These changes aim to minimize the fluff in bullet points and focus on the essential information about the products. Since Amazon customers open multiple PDPs at a time, more uniform bullet points will help them compare different options.

Everyone knew that this day would come. When using emojis in bullet points was the “new hack,” it seemed to help differentiate and maybe increase conversion.

Well, no more.

We made a few small-scale A/B tests of 2 types of bullet points:

The bullet points in test A ran with emojis added to the text;

In test B, we had clear text with no emojis;

In every test, the results were more than obvious. The bullet points without emojis performed 60- 80% better than those with emojis. In addition to the existing review process, Amazon will use AI to optimize listing quality, which, from our experience – is bad news.

They claim that before publishing any improvement, the platform will share it with you for review.

The biggest issue we found is that their new AI changes variation theme names to utter nonsense without warning. After the changes are made, it’s incredibly difficult (but possible) to revert them.
