From March 1st, 2023, the platform will charge based on whichever is higher – the “old” actual weight of a product or the new dimensional weight.
Amazon will use the packaged product’s dimensions and unit weight to determine the following:
Pan-European FBA
European fulfillment network
Multi-Channel fulfillment fees and
Customer returns processing fees
Here is how the description above looks like in a simple formula: Length ✖️ Width ✖️ Height cm3 ➗ 5000 🟰Weight in kg.
What’s the reason behind this raise?
According to Amazon, this is done to better align its fees with fulfillment costs for all parcel size bands excluding small and light items.
From Amazon’s point of view, these changes make sense. They have to allow more space in the warehouse for bigger products but charge less due to lower weight.
Sellers will have to decide – to have lower margins or to increase products’ prices.
