How to Fix Catalog Error in 4 Different Ways?

Whatever error you see on your Amazon account can make your heart skip a beat (or 2). Error often means suspensions, hours of sweating how to fix it, or WHY it actually happens. And sometimes days till Amazon accepts the new changes.

 

What is a catalog error?

 

In short, it is a mismatch between your product information and the data Amazon has already collected. Inconsistencies can lead to delays in assigning an internal ASIN identifier. It impacts the visibility and discoverability of your product.

 

In the paragraphs below, we share 4 ways to fix catalog errors.

 

Option 1

 

Update listing information through the feed file (download a category listing report).

 

Once you have the report, you must find the listing and input all the information and attributes you want.

 

Example:  You have to input the new attribute in the title’s branch, if you want to update it.

 

Where is the catch? You must remember that in the “Update/ Delete” branch, you have to select “Update”. In technical terms, that means a full update.

 

On the “Product ID Type,” you must select ASIN, and on the “Product ID”, put the ASIN in.

 

This way, you will refresh the Amazon system with all the changes and remove any obstacles you can face in the catalog.

 

 Option 2

 

The easier way is to delete the listing for 24-48 hours. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work all the time.

 

When you delete the listing for a longer period, the system will automatically accept the new attributes that you want to update.

 

You must upload a feed file (category listing report) with the ASIN and full update (the same step explained in Option 1).

 

Then check if the desired information is reflected.

 

Option 3

 

The letter-by-letter method:

 

  • Go to the backend of your ASIN.
  • Go into the “Vital info” through the “edit” function, and select your wanted attribute, for example, title, brand, etc.
  • Delete the initial information that was put in before (the “incorrect” one), and type one letter of the word or combination of words that you want to update. For example, the correct brand is “Apple” You put the first letter of the word, which in this case it’s A.
  • Then click Save & Finish.

 

Wait for a few minutes till the information is reflected in the backend,( your second try should look like “Ap”) and then continue another letter.


Option 4 – Amazon support

If you need to update an attribute on your Product detail page (PDP), contact the Amazon support team.

You can do it through the “Fix a Product Page” option.

All you need is your ASIN and the attribute you want to update.

  • Go to the “Help” option on the top right corner of the page.
  • Scroll down until you see the “Get Support” button and click on it.
  • Choose “Selling on Amazon”.
  • Scroll down and click on “Products, Listings, or Inventory”.
  • Choose “Fix a Product Page” from the drop-down menu.
  • Follow the instructions provided by Amazon to update the attribute.

Usually, it takes around 4-6 hours for Amazon to decide on your suggested attribute.

There is no issue you can’t handle when you use the most appropriate solution. Sometimes we need to test different options to find the best one.
